I remember Jon most from riding to school with my dad and I. We would pick her up at 3rd and Marion. We never had many classes together but remanined good friends.
Jon was in my typing and shorthand class. Jon, Shirley Ward and I had fun together. One time Shirley, Jon and I did some "whitewashing" and had to clean it off????
I remember when Jon first entered Washington School in either the fourth or fifth grade. She was in my room, and I was in awe of her because of her name and because she was from TEXAS! She seemed so grown up, and was more developed than any other girl in the class. We were all very curious about this new girl from so far away. In the years that followed, we became friends, and I hated to hear she had passed away at such a young age.
Classmate Jon Meta Moorefield was married to classmate Robert (Bob) Thomas and left us way too early. She lived from 1941 - 1987 and is buried in East Lawn Cemetery.
Jon was a great friend and classmate. I did have several classes with her when I switched from College Prep to Commercial. I believe her mom worked at
the News Stand on Putnam Street.
A good memory I have of Jon was when I was taking my son, Scott for a walk in his stroller. We were in Marietta visiting my folks, and I decided to walk
over to my aunt Margaret (White)'s to visit for awhile. As I came to the Hoff's Bait Store on Seventh Street, I heard a voice yelling my name. When I looked
over it was Bob Thomas. He told me I should go up the hill behind the Bait Store to the house they were living in and visit with Jon. So I did and we had
a great time reminiscing. Missing both Jon and now Bob.
